Quotable:

“A lot of people equate communications and media as people who (just) work with computers—they don’t realize the amount of strategy we do and the range of stories that we’ve worked with.”

Looking at clients from a holistic and comprehensive perspective has set Matt Thompson and the team at Story & Co. apart.

Listen to Matt Thompson talk about his company, Story & Co., and it quickly becomes obvious that his business isn’t a one-size-fits-all place where plans are churned out production-line style. Story & Co. may have a backbone in tried-and-true methods but this is an operation that emphasizes a personal touch to its strategy, branding and communications work.

When asked about his greatest achievement, Thompson replied, “Yesterday,”—because, he said, every day when Story & Co. can do what they do is an adventure that makes Thompson proud. Due to the relatively small population of the Kootenays, many of Story & Co.’s clients are based outside the region, but Thompson said he especially enjoys the diverse stories of his local clients.

Ultimately, though, the size or focus of the business comes second to a sense of direction; Thompson loves working with companies that have an idea of what they want their brand to look like and what they want to accomplish. Story & Co. looks at its clients from a holistic and comprehensive perspective, going back to the basics and working from the ground up.

“A lot of people equate communications and media as people who (just) work with computers,” said Thompson. “They don’t realize the amount of strategy we do and the range of stories that we’ve worked with—from tourism to economic development, real estate to non-profit and environmental to products.”
