Miro Micovsky has been instrumental as Golden, B.C., attempts to reposition itself as a primary destination for international outdoor recreationists. Tourism marketing began in earnest two years ago when Micovsky was hired as the marketing director. With the help of Driven Media, the organization has created a new brand and look—and, in fact, a new vision—for Golden.
“Golden wanted to present the world with what we had,” said Micovsky, “and present it in a format that would be attractive, believable and realistic—and in a format that local people will buy into.”
Micovsky said the message is reaching their audience; both summer and winter recreationists from around the globe are responding to the new website encouraging tourism, even during a time of economic uncertainty. Local reaction has also been overwhelmingly positive.
“Most of the (local) feedback is that it’s new, it’s different and it’s very much Golden,“ said Micovsky.
Micovsky believes that communication is one of the most important parts of business, regardless of the focus.
“Communicate honestly, as often as possible and to the right people—your passion, your vision, your beliefs and your knowledge,” he said. “It is important not only for business or any work that you do but also for friendships, relationships and everything in life.”
