Cranbrook and Kimberley sports communities often feel a financial crunch to continue operating and are under-represented when it comes to receiving grant money to run local sports teams. To assist these groups, two free workshops on writing grants for minor and amateur sports will be offered on Saturday, October 29 in both Cranbrook and Kimberley.

Sponsored by the Kimberley and District Community Foundation, the Cranbrook and District Community Foundation and Columbia Basin Trust, the workshops will take place at the Cranbrook and Kimberley campuses of College of the Rockies.

Facilitator Moira Gookstetter, representing Sports BC, is currently the CEO of Gymnastics BC in Vancouver and has over 18 years of experience in the British Columbia sports sector. She will present winning ways to write grant proposals and how to uncover grants available for sports in the local community.

Gookstetter’s first workshop will be at the College of the Rockies’ Cranbrook Campus on Saturday October 29 from 9 a.m. to noon in room S114 and at the Kimberley Campus from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in room 12.

Josh Lockhart, program director at the Kimberley campus noted, “This is a great opportunity to learn about grant writing, about monies available to the community, to network with other minor sports representatives in the area and to help make our communities’ sports better.”
