Meet Sister Girl, a country band that hails from Revelstoke, B.C. This group recently celebrated the release of their second album, aptly titled Amazing Things Happen. After the success of their self-titled first CD, they have every reason to be excited for this one.
A release party was held at the Big Eddy Pub in Revelstoke, and it was jam-packed.
“We had a great time and it was wonderful to feel the support of our community on our special night,” said one of the members of Sister Girl.
The audience was treated to some of the melodies off the brand new album. With names like That’s How I Roll, Happiness and the title track, Amazing Things Happen, it’s easy to want to give this collection a listen.
Sister Girl is made up of Joanne Stacey, Sharlene Foisy, Janine Carey-Bourke, Stephanie Ballendine and “Mr. Sister,” Russ Brackenbury. They work together to produce the harmonic tracks, although these were mostly written by Foisy and/or Stacey.
You can visit Sister Girl's website to find out what this band with a “vibrant hometown feel” is up to, or to sample their sound.

“I'm obviously very proud, but also a little overwhelmed right now,” said Konig. “I do have a great team behind me that I can count on to keep the club being involved in all we're doing—not just hunting and fishing. There is the environmental and conservation side, we work with the BC Wildlife Federation, fix up campsites, run work bees, have regular shoots—either archery or trap—we give input on hunting and trapping regulations and so on.”
Konig will certainly have her work cut out for her. The club has more than 200 members and is a community that stays involved in a number of events and programs. Konig puts emphasis on “educating the future decision-makers in order to keep this beautiful area free and safe for everyone to enjoy.”
“Becoming the first female president in the 95-year history of the club was the easy thing,” Konig said with a laugh. “Now I have to prove that I can actually do it.”

Lawrence finds running the store to be a thoroughly rewarding experience, including the challenges that come with it.
"I didn’t work this hard in any job in my career to date," she said, "but at the same time I haven’t had this much fun in a long time."
With an extensive background in silviculture, handling everything from crew boss duties to tree planting, Lawrence has always found ways to get up close and personal with nature. She also has become well known for her political involvement in the West Kootenay. All of these experiences benefited her when she moved on to business ownership.
While in Nelson for a wedding, Lawrence saw Lonnie's Lingerie for sale on a web listing, and knew that her stars had aligned. The store was formally taken over by the new owners in January 2012, and the grand opening event in early February showed significant promise. Lawrence plans to bring new lines of lingerie into the boutique, including some which are not currently sold in Canada.

Being the best
The original location, at 103-607 Victoria Road, has been a local’s favourite, offering a variety of lunch options, all made from the highest quality ingredients. Ratté’s philosophy involves being passionate, if not a little perfectionist, about all she does, and it is certainly reflected on the menu. Experience varying options of their fresh pastas, breads made from organic flour, and Ratté’s personal recommendation, the gelato bar, at any of the three locations.
Skis and Sherpas
Sherpas Cinema is responsible for the wildly successful film “All.I.Can” that premiered in Kootenay locations over the winter of 2011/12. The upcoming film will focus on the cat-skiing industry, and specifically how Selkirk Wilderness Skiing has pioneered the cat-skiing movement since its beginnings in 1975. The film is set to be released in summer 2012.
