One of the driving philosophies of New Dawn Developments has always been that the company builds in the East Kootenay because it is home; they work where they live. Now, they are gearing up to work where they play. On January 28, 2010, it was announced that a purchase agreement had been approved for Panorama Mountain Village between Intrawest ULC, the owners of resort developments all over the world, and Panorama Mountain Village Inc., a company headed by New Dawn Developments CEO, Rick Jensen. According to Jensen, this is the next step in the evolution of the company he founded more than 30 years ago, though he doesn’t anticipate having to divert focus from New Dawn’s current development plans. “One of the strengths of the sale was the employee base and the management team,” said Jensen. “As far as running the ski hill, the team’s in place already.” New Dawn Developments has history on the hill. The company was the developer for many of the existing single- and multi-family homes built on the resort’s property. Jensen himself owns a house in the development, and it was his connection to the resort that influenced the decision to put together a group of local investors and buy the property. “I personally love the mountain and do most of my skiing in Panorama,” said Jensen. “We thought there was an opportunity and that Intrawest had an appetite to sell some of their resorts so I thought that would be a good fit for us, particularly with New Dawn.” Jensen said that a 300-acre parcel of land is ready for the next stage of development on the mountain, which means that the potential exists to almost double the resort in size and scope. He anticipates a 10- to 15-year development and construction program by New Dawn. h4. Resource: http://www.newdawndevelopments.com
