Chamber luncheon
by KEITH POWELL

GUEST SPEAKER: The expo will feature several speakers, including Greg Deck.
Don’t miss the Chamber of Commerce March luncheon that is kicking off the Business Expo and Job Fair at the College of the Rockies (COTR) gymnasium, Tuesday, March 27th, 2007, starting at 11:45 a.m.

The Cranbrook and District Chamber of Commerce has put together a stellar lineup of guest speakers including Dr. Ardy Smith Miller from COTR.

Dr. Smith Miller will be welcoming everyone to the college and presenting an overview of recent developments and expansion at the college. COTR will also feature an open house during the day and they invite guests to discover all the college has to offer.

RCMP Officer Brian Edmundson, will also make a brief presentation on community policing in Cranbrook including changes in alarm-system bylaws and Citizen on Patrol initiatives.

Featured guest speaker at the Chamber luncheon will be Greg Deck, chairman of the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK). His presentation will highlight the opportunities and challenges the East Kootenay region faces with continued expansion and development.

Greg Deck is currently serving his sixth term as Mayor of Radium Hot Springs. In that capacity, he has represented the village for 17 years on the RDEK board, where he is now in his fifth year as chair of that organization.
Greg is a founding board member of the Columbia Basin Trust and is currently a trustee of the Municipal Finance Association of B.C. as well as a board member of the Southern Interior Development Initiative Trust. He grew up in Invermere and then left the area for ten years to attend university and work in the U.S. He returned with his wife, Meaghan, to take over the Canyon RV Resort in Radium, which they continue to operate.

If you want a current update on what is happening in the East Kootenay, the luncheon (only $15 per person) will be the place to be on March 27th.
