Mark Tuesday, March 27th, on your calendar. That’s the date of a new Business Expo and Job Fair that will be taking place at the College of the Rockies (COTR) in Cranbrook, organized by Kootenay Business and co-sponsored by the Cranbrook Chamber of Commerce and COTR.

This informative event will run from 1 to 6 p.m. at the gymnasium of the COTR campus.

The Business Expo and Job Fair is a dual-purpose event which both business people and job seekers will find helpful and informative.

The event starts with the monthly Cranbrook Chamber of Commerce luncheon at 11:45 a.m. and will be followed by the Business Expo and Job Fair. It is open to everyone who is interested in exploring new business, employment and career opportunities that are in demand in today’s competitive marketplace.

“We are inviting the business community, new entrepreneurs, current COTR students, who will be looking for a career in the near future, as well as high school students and community members who are wondering about the best opportunities for employment and advancement,” said Keith Powell, Kootenay Business publisher. “There will be over 30 employers and their representatives with display booths at the College of the Rockies, as well as several community employment and service agencies who can inform business entrepreneurs, students and job seekers about the opportunities and services available.

“Some of the region’s largest employers have confirmed their attendance including Interior Health, Elk Valley Coal, Fairmont Hot Springs Resort, Prestige Inns, St. Eugene Golf Resort and Casino and a number of other leading employers.”

Employers to benefit also

The Business Expo and Job Fair will also benefit employers and participating businesses who will have the opportunity to recruit staff directly from COTR’s student population and alumni, as well as taking the opportunity to promote future careers and business opportunities.

The College of the Rockies itself will have informative booths, staff and information available to explain what training and development it can provide for those interested in getting the skills they need to enter these fields.
“The upcoming Business Expo and Job Fair will be an excellent opportunity to network with businesses and employers from the region,” said Donna Kraus-Hagerman, manager of communications and community relations at COTR. “For many students and entrepreneurs alike it will be all about making connections—with people, resources and programs—that confirms their career interests, and helps them identify the training and work opportunities that are available. The college benefits by being an important facilitator in helping people transition from school to the workplace.”

Kootenay Business is pleased to work in co-operation with the COTR to promote its programming, help the region’s employers connect with potential new employees and present an opportunity for business owners and managers to network with one another.
