The city of Fernie has seen an influx of people coming from Alberta and the United Kingdom to take advantage of Fernie’s world-class recreational opportunities and invest in the community. “The last three years have been the busiest in Fernie’s history for building permits,” said Randal Macnair, mayor of Fernie. “And a number of new businesses have opened up in our downtown.” An exciting project in the works that will change the face of Fernie’s downtown core is the development of the old high school. “The whole project is two city blocks,” said Macnair. “It has been rezoned for commercial and residential development, and will revitalize a neglected building and bring new life into the downtown core.”
