Miners, merchants and managers at Minerals South

The annual celebration of mining focused on the strength of southern opportunities

by Glynis Fediuk

Outside, Kimberley was receiving its first big snowfall of the season; inside, attendees of Minerals South were buzzing with excitement at Minerals South, presented by the East Kootenay Chamber of Mines. It was held from November 15 to 17 and attracted many industry insiders to the Kimberley Conference and Athlete Training Centre for its seventh incarnation.

Minerals South attracted people of all ages this year. Youths were drawn to the elementary school programs, while the technical sessions, short courses and presentations provided insight into subjects ranging from ongoing B.C.-based projects to government protocol. Nightly receptions provided entertainment. Representatives from AMEBC, Geoscience BC, Teck Coal and many others were in attendance, and the conference offered non-stop chances for networking. Overall, it was a fantastic success.
