Revelstoke Building the city its residents want The City of Revelstoke is faced with some big decisions by JODY JACOB
A DELIGHTFUL DOWNTOWN: Revelstoke's downtown core is a busy place with plenty of stores, restaurants and activities.
The city of Revelstoke is entering an important and exciting phase, as many decisions will be made in the near future in terms of its development.
“We had to increase staff at the City in order to keep up with the development demand,” said Mark McKee, mayor of Revelstoke. “We’re taking a long hard look at how the community wants to develop—it is possible that we could be spending up to $25 million in the next five years on infrastructure. Nothing is set in stone, but we are looking at these types of issues.”
Some big projects in Revelstoke include the development of Mount Mackenzie, now formally known as the Revelstoke Mountain Resort, as well as the 2005 start-up of the City’s energy corporation, which converts wood waste into hot water that is used to heat key buildings in the community.
“To the delight of the younger generation we also got a Tim Hortons,” said McKee, who joked that the coffee shop is a big deal for caffeine lovers as well.
Some objectives for the City of Revelstoke over the next few years are managing the growth of the city and continuing to deliver quality services to residents, as well as keeping the community affordable for locals.
