The Town of Golden has made great strides to diversify its economy and increase its profile as a premier recreation destination for travellers from all over the world. “Right now I cannot think of a better or more exciting community to live in,” said Jim Doyle, former mayor of Golden. “The residents of Golden and the people who have chosen to invest here have created a strong, vital and diversified community that has seen amazing things happen during the past few years—and I have a feeling that this is only the beginning.” From the development of the world-class ski resort, Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, to the highly anticipated British Columbia Visitor Centre in Golden, Golden’s tourism industry has expanded by leaps and bounds, and the community has received strong support in other local industries too, such as forestry. “There is just so much potential in the area,” said Doyle. “It seems that every couple of weeks there is somebody coming to start a new business or invest significantly in our community. We are especially grateful to our friends and neighbours from Alberta who have become a very important and special part of our economy.” In February 2006, the Town of Golden came up with a new vision that Doyle feels sums up the expectations residents have of Golden for the future. The vision statement is: Golden provides the opportunity for all to live in a healthy, vibrant community.
